A seasoned professional with nearly 35years of rewarding experience in the fields of housing and community development, Burnetta Smith is the Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Authority of the County of Wake, located in Zebulon, North Carolina. She has progressed through many roles and responsibilities – including assistant manager, property manager, director of resident services, director of property management, and to her current position.
Burnetta is a dedicated professional who has served on numerous boards and committees on local, state and national levels. She currently serves as President of the Carolinas Council of Housing and Redevelopment Codes Officials, representing North and South Carolina, she is a past member of the Professional Development Committee of the South Eastern Regional Council representing 10 states, Board Member for the Wake County Human Services Eastern Regional Center Community Action Committee, and Committee Member for the Wake County Housing Solutions Committee. Burnetta also facilitates customer service and leadership trainings for housing and public service professionals.
Burnetta holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Concentration in Housing Management from Winston-Salem State University; and she has participated in countless continuing education and trainings in the housing and customer service fields. Her housing certifications include: Certified Public Housing Manager (PHM); Certified Assisted Housing Manager (AHM); and Accredited Residential Manager (ARM).
Burnetta is married to Jack Smith and lives in Wendell, North Carolina. They have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren.
